There are three threads at WebmasterWorld and dozens at Google Webmaster Help in the past week or so, all discussing ranking changes at Google and sites that were doing well in Google, no longer doing well.
To me, it sounds like an algorithm update. The only issue, it isn’t being discussed as ‘loudly’ as some past Google algorithm updates. So what is going on? Why am I seeing people saying both really bad things and really good things:
Exact same thing here. Mine was slightly earlier…. October the 20th, traffic fell off a cliff. Down 80%.
Looks like everything is in flux. I hope it settles in a day or two (and that I’m doing good of course.
My Google traffic is back to “before Mayday” levels
Remember, yesterday I covered a thread where I pointed out Google has algorithms to figure out what algorithms to use on your site at different times? Well, in that post, I did not Google’s JohnMu was replying to one webmaster’s recent ranking issue.
John said, “while we initially rolled out this [May Day] change earlier this year, the web changes, sites change, and with that, our algorithms will continually adapt to the current state on the web, on those sites.” So yes, maybe what people are seeing this week is that their site is being impacted by the MayDay update and some sites no longer being impacted by it?
Or is this some different ranking update by Google?
